Fuel Cells Today - Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Program Faces House Vote

The U.S. Fuel Cell Council (USFCC) recently reported that the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has included nearly $65 million for a fuel cell bus technology development program in the proposed federal highway and transit policy legislation.

According to USFCC, the $64.8-million Fuel Cell Bus Technology Development Program included in the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users is a cost-shared, competitively awarded grant initiative with a maximum of three projects to be selected from geographically diverse areas of the country. USFCC said the provision covers hydrogen production, energy storage, fuel cell technologies, vehicles systems integration and power electronics technologies.

USFCC noted that the program focuses on technology integration, testing, demonstration and validation of fuel cell vehicle technologies, and supporting infrastructure.

"The industry looks forward to working with the House and Senate to enhance funding support as the bill moves through the legislative process," said USFCC executive director Robert Rose.
