Fuel Cells Today - Hydrogenics to Provide Fuel Cell Power Module in Japan

Hydrogenics Corporation recently announced it will supply a 10-kilowatt HyPM fuel cell power module for a demonstration project in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

Contracted by trading company ITOCHU Corporation of Tokyo, Japan, Hydrogenics will work with Hitachi Zosen Corporation, which provides and manages electrolysis equipment. The power module is scheduled for delivery in June 2004.

"One of the aims of the project is to demonstrate a zero-emission energy system based on renewable energy," said Hydrogenics president and CEO Pierre Rivard. "An electrolyser will produce hydrogen on site using electricity from existing solar photovoltaic panels. The hydrogen will then be stored and used to fuel Hydrogenics' HyPM 10 power module during hours of peak electricity demand,"
